BIO: As the only girl playing hockey growing up on all boys teams, Sami Jo Small was forced to prove that she could keep up with the boys, with hard work and determination. She had always dreamt of one day competing for Canada at the Olympic Games.

Attending Stanford University to throw discus and javelin, she never gave up on her dream even when injuries interrupted her career. Sami went back to her sport that she had always loved and started playing on the Stanford Men’s team where she received PAC-10 MVP honors.

In 1998, her dream came true when she accepted a spot on the Olympic team traveling to Nagano, Japan. As women’s hockey was on a rise to fame, Sami Joe Small was a big part of its notoriety. Since her Olympic fame, she has won five World Championships, two time Championship MVP, three time Olympian—two time Olympic Gold.

Currently, Sami Jo Small uses her athletic experiences for motivational speaking and owns a hockey school. She also started the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, and continues to play for the Toronto team. Sami is available for speaking engagements, sports clinics, and personal appearances.
