Growing up in Santa Barbara, California, Karch was taught the sport he would eventually dominate by his father. In high school, he led the volleyball team to an undefeated senior season and was named the state's high school MVP. Also, during his high school years, he played for the U.S. junior national team.

BIO: When one thinks of volleyball, legend and three-time Olympic gold medalist, Karch Kiraly is the first name that comes to mind. Growing up in Santa Barbara, California, Karch was taught the sport he would eventually dominate by his father. In high school, he led the volleyball team to an undefeated senior season and was named the state’s high school MVP. Also, during his high school years, he played for the U.S. junior national team.

Upon graduation, Karch attended UCLA, earning a B.S. in biochemistry in 1983 while leading the Bruins to three national titles (1979, 1981, 1982). Also while at UCLA, Karch made his first appearances for the senior national team. Fittingly, Karch went on to become a fixture on the national team through much of the 1980s, as a dominant setter/hitter. With Karch as the backbone, Team USA would win Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988. Furthermore, he was named the top player in the world in 1986 and 1988 by FIVB (International Volleyball Federation). 8 years later, in Atlanta, Karch Kiraly would capture Olympic Gold once again in beach volleyball.

Clearly the ‘winningest’ player in the history of the sport, Karch has earned more than three million dollars playing beach volleyball and has become one of the most recognized sports figures today.

As recent as 2007, at 46 years old, Karch was still performing at a high level of pro beach volleyball, beating players literally half his age. Although he is retired now, Karch has won at least one tournament in 24 of the 28 seasons he has played, spanning four different decades, and has claimed a title in 24 different states with 13 different partners.

Karch was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 1992 and the volleyball hall of fame in 2001. Today, Karch runs his own volleyball academy, and works in TV broadcast. Already much respected in the world of sports broadcasting, Karch has been featured in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. Karch is available for speaking engagements, sporting events and satellite media tours.
