BIO: As a forward for the North Carolina Tar Heel Women’s soccer team, Heather O’Reilly appeared in 97 games scoring 59 goals and 49 assists. She led her team to 2 national championships and was named All-American Player of the Year by ESPN the Magazine and NCAA’s Today’s Top VIII Award.

Heather O’Reilly’s #20 jersey was retired along with April Heinrichs, Lorrie Fair, Trisha Venturini, Kristine Lilly, Mia Hamm and 13 others. After her successful career as a Tar Heel, Heather went on to play for the New Jersey Wildcats then onto Sky Blue FC of the WPS. Here she joined Christie Rampone and Natasha Kai.

While still in high school, Heather O’Reilly was named to the U.S. National Team and made her first appearance in 2002 against Sweden. She made the roster on the 2004 Olympic team in Athens and as the youngest player on the team, Heather scored the game winning goal in the semifinal game against Germany and went on to win gold as they defeated Brazil in the finals.

She was nominated as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year and Time ranked her number 15 on its list of 100 Olympic Athletes to Watch for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing where the team also won gold.
