No discussion on elite swim coaches in the world would be complete without the mention of Eddie Reese. Reese has been the head coach of the University of Texas Men’s Swim team since 1978, and has experienced success at every level possible since then—from coaching NCAA All-Americans and winning nine NCAA Team Titles, to becoming the head coach of the United States Men’s Olympics Swim Team three times.

Reese has been the head coach of the University of Texas Men’s Swim team since 1978, and has experienced success at every level possible since then—from coaching NCAA All-Americans and winning nine NCAA Team Titles, to becoming the head coach of the United States Men’s Olympics Swim Team three times.

As head coach of UT, Reese has guided 41 NCAA individual champions, 30 national champion relays, 199 All-Americans, and 26 Olympians who have won 29 gold medals. There is no other men’s swimming program in the United States that has developed as much tradition and had as much success as Reese’s program at Texas.

Olympic Greats Ian Crocker, Josh Davis, Brendan Hansen, Aaron Peirsol, and Eric Shanteau are just a handful of those whom list Reese as a coach. In addition to serving as the Head Coach of the United States Men’s Olympic Swim Team three times, Reese has provided support for the Olympic staff as an assistant coach three times.

Reese has earned several other accolades throughout his career including being announced as the American Swim Coaches Association Coach of the Year four times, and The National Collegiate Scholar and Swimming Coach of the Year once. He is a member of the Longhorn Hall of Honor. Generally coaches have to be retired for five years before they are even considered for nomination. Additionally, Reese is one of three members in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame that has a connection to swimming.

Reese resides in Austin with his wife Elinor. The couple has two daughters and three grandchildren. Away from the pool, Reese enjoys fishing and hunting. Eddie is available for speaking engagements, gold outings and corporate hospitality.
