BIO: Donna de Varona first made her swimming debut at the age of 13-the youngest member of the 1960 US Olympic team. Four year later at the 1964 Tokyo Games, Donna won two gold medals and set two Olympic records in the 400 IM and the 4×100 free relay. A year later, she retired from swimming after breaking 18 world records and 37 national titles.
In 1965, she was made the first female sports broadcaster with ABC and worked as an Olympic reporter. Donna de Varona also worked for the passing of Title IX and the Equal Education Amendment Act of 1972. Donna also helped consult the US Senate during the preparation of the Amateur Sports Act, aiming to give women and minorities greater and better access to training facilities and money. Donna was also the co-founder of the Women’s Sports Foundation in 1974 and served as its first president from 1979-1984. Donna is available for fundraising, corporate events and speaking engagements.
