BIO: Alexi Lalas is a retired American soccer player who played defender for the United States National Team in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Alexi became the first modern-era American soccer player to play in the Italian Serie A.

Alexi’s college career was from 1988 to 1991 at Rutgers University, where he led the team to the NCAA Final Four in 1989 and the National Championship Game in 1990. Alexi had many awards: third team All-American in 1989 and 1990, in 1991 first team All-American and was selected as both the Hermann Trophy and Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year. Not only did Alexi Lalas play soccer in college, he also play hockey and was leading scorer in 1989.

After college and the 1992 Olympic Games, Alexi trained with former Arsenal player Bob McNab in California which led to a trial with Arsenal during the winter of 1992. He trained with and played for the Reserve team. Alexi signed with Italian Serie A club Padova after the 1994 FIFA World Cup. After a gallant effort of anchoring the team’s defense and scoring three goals off set pieces, Padova finish the season at the bottom of the standings.

Following his playing career, Alexi became President and GM of the San Jose Earthquakes, New York Red Bulls and Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS. He was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006. He is currently a part-time player for Hollywood united F.C. He currently works as a sports analyst with ESPN and ABC Sports and is available for public appearances, public service announcements and sporting events.
